The new 'Teatro delle Marionette' has been designed by Studio & Partners in collaboration with Arup to continue the Colla families long standing tradition of children's puppet theatre. Located at Milan's QT8 the building seeks to have a specific relationship with the outlining park and adjacent amenities.Using the existing ground topology the theatre structure is partically submerged from the surrounding street level and is accessed by a curved ramp that provides an external space for games and events. The building is characterised by a soft form enclosure that echoes the internal activities and is constructed from continuous laminated wood beams. Internal the double height entrance foyer and auditorium are used to exhibit the theatres history and activities. The whole project has been guided by a sustainable design approach that minimises its environmental impact and reduces its energy consumption.
